Wrockwardine Parish Council is NOT the Planning Authority; this is the function of The Borough Council. The view of the Parish Council does not carry any extra weight (over and above any other resident) nor is it guaranteed to be taken into account when any decision is made by the Borough Council. The Parish Council is simply invited, by the Borough Council, to give its views on planning applications. If a planning application affects you, or you have a view which you wish to be taken into consideration by the Planning Officers of the Borough Council then it is important that you convey that opinion directly to the relevant authority (which is Telford and Wrekin Council). The Parish Council is unable to “pass on” the views of others to the Planning Authority but it may take into account the views of residents of the Parish when deciding upon its own position on any particular application.

This means that the Council now has a duty to fill the vacancy of Parish Councillor by co-option. If you live in the parish of Wrockwardine or within 3 miles of the parish or are otherwise eligible to be elected as a local councillor of this parish and to hold such office, you are invited to apply to the council for co-option.

All enquiries and applications to be forwarded to:

c/o The Clerk to the Parish Council

Signed M. Goldstraw
Clerk to the Parish Council

14th May 2015

*Please note that there are presently two vacancies in this Ward of the Parish. One vacancy can be filled by co-option because it is a result of insufficient candidates standing for the election held on 7th May. The other vacancy caused by the failure of an elected Councillor to take his seat must be dealt with under Rule 5(2) of The Local Elections Rules (see separate notice).

Vacancy in the Office of Parish Councillor

(Section 87(2))

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a casual vacancy has occurred in the office of Councillor for the Parish of Wrockwardine (Admaston & Bratton Ward) due to the failure of Mr Adrian Williams to make the required declaration of acceptance of office.

Rule 5(2) of The Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) (England and Wales) Rules, 2006 now applies.

The rule allows TEN ELECTORS for the parish in which the casual vacancy has arisen to request the Returning Officer to hold an election to fill the vacancy.* That request must be made within FOURTEEN DAYS, calculated in accordance with the rules,** of the date of this notice. The fourteen-day period ends on 4th June 2015. .

What if a request to hold an election is not received during the permitted time? Rule 5(5) of the above Rules will apply. The Parish Council must, as soon as practicable after the expiry of the fourteen-day period, co-opt a person to fill the vacancy.

The Returning Officer’s address is Electoral Services Office, Telford & Wrekin Council, Addenbrooke House, Ironmasters Way, Telford, TF3 4NT and his telephone number for further guidance is (01952) 383201 .

Martin Goldstraw
Clerk to the Council

* There is no form of words for this request, which might simply be a letter headed with such words as “We the undersigned being electors for the Wrockwardine Parish (Admaston & Bratton Ward), call for an election to fill the vacancy due to the failure of Mr Adrian Williams to make the required declaration of acceptance of office”. It is helpful if the ten signatures are accompanied by printed names and addresses.

** In calculating the notice period, day one is the day following the date of this notice; a Saturday, Sunday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Good Friday or a Bank Holiday or day appointed for public thanksgiving or mourning shall be disregarded, and the period closes at midnight on the fourteenth day after the date of this notice.
